What intrigues me are the many clerics and Charismatic/neopentecostal prophets who are proclaiming that Donald Trump is a modern day Cyrus the Great, meaning he is God's anointed leader who will save American from its downward _____ (fill in the blank = moral, financial, economic, military, etc.) spiral.
Well, if President-Elect Trump is our modern day Cyrus, God is going to have to get busy and do a work on his heart and ways, as he did in Cyrus's. According to the Hebrew Scriptures the good Lord made Cyrus ethical and guided his ways so as to be "direct", i.e., consistent with God's own will including his ordained moral and ethical precepts and commands (Isaiah 45:1-13). I have yet to detect such in Trump. To the contrary, he still talks and walks like a psychopathic CEO whose behavior provides textbook examples of megalomania, malignant narcissism and paranoia.
However, as I am not a psychologist or mental health exert, I will leave the diagnostic work to those reading this who are.
Personally, I would love to believe that Trump will do more good than harm. But there is so much about his actions and words that remind me of historical accounts of how authoritarian and fascist politicians (in the 1920s and beyond) courted various factions in their countries including leading Christian religious leaders and denominations, then used them to nefarious ends all the while plotting their "transformation" or elimination.
Right now Dr. Pat Robertson and his cohosts on CBN's 700 Club send a portion of each show fawning over Trump's election victory while cherry picking through the news in ways that emphasize Mr. Trump's so-called virtues -- while conveniently glossing over or ignoring the many things he says and does that are alarming and depict a man who seems to epitomize the very lawlessness the Bible decries and denounces.
Now, while I in no way equate Mr. Trump's personality or actions with those of with another (oft invoked) political "messiah", Adolf Hitler, I find it an insightful study in contrasts to juxtapose Dr. Robertson & company's unbridled faith in Trump and what he is doing and will do for America, with CBN's own segment on how the patron saint of evil (Hitler) spoke in similar terms of what he would do for Germany (in the 1930s) and how adroitly he manipulated the news media of his day and Germany's Catholic and Protestant leaders to buy into this (with tragic results): http://www.cbn.com/tv/2305162768001?mobile=false (And this in ways that Trump eerily mirrors today)
If God does intervene and makes Trump's path ethical and "direct", then he could very well wind up doing more good than harm during his four year term as America's 45th President. But if Trump's path remains unchanged, I suspect Dr. Robertson and many others who share his political worldview will find themselves lamenting Trump's reign and depicting him not as a blessing to America, but as judgment...or worse...a curse on the land.
